A translation of President Ikeda’s “Words of the Week”
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.18th-24th Aug., 2014
— WORDS OF THE WEEK —
Our faith manifests itself in our daily lives.
Let’s remind ourselves
never to become carelessĀ or overconfident.
One day of life is more valuable than
all the treasures of the entire universe.*
Let’s therefore, live out our lives
by using all of our wisdom (through our faith and practice).*”One day of life is more valuable than all the treasures of the major world system, so first you must muster sincere faith.”
– “On Prolonging Oneā€™s Life Span”, WND-I, page 955

—- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT —-
To behave with Buddhist compassion is to be mindful of the feelings of those who are struggling. It isĀ to do whatever we can to alleviate, even a little, the pain of those whose hearts are filled with sorrow, despairing over lifeā€™sĀ bitterĀ challenges. It is toĀ give hope to those who are trying their hardest in difficult circumstances. It isĀ to impart courage to those who are stuck and unable to find a way forwards.Ā And it is to teach, show, and awakenĀ others to the fact thatĀ they possess within them theĀ powerĀ to overcome every problem, andĀ enableĀ them toĀ actuallyĀ tapĀ that power. These are also extremely important points in fostering capable people.”
